This in school workshop served as an introduction to glass casting.

Each member placed an object into a bucket of sand to create a form, and then poured molten glass into the resulting hole to create a cast of the form.

 

多摩美術大学内でガラス鋳型のワークショップを行いました。

バケツの中に砂を詰めて型を作り、熱したガラスを流し込む鋳造法（キャスティング）を体験しました。

多摩美術大学内で和紙作りのワークショップを行いました。

During the washi workshop, each member was able to use mulberry bark fibers and other materials such as banana peel fibers to create sheets of paper using real washi-making techniques.

 

楮（こうぞ）という木の皮やバナナを使用して、実際にすいて乾かすことで本格的な和紙を制作しました。

During this workshop, members learned how to heat steel and copper, bending and hammering them into new shapes.

 

多摩美術大学内で金属加工のワークショップを行いました。

鉄や銅などの金属を熱することで曲げたり、叩いてお椀型に成形することで加工の体験をしました。

Mr. Takagi, a famous professor at Tamabi came especially to talk to us about Urushi.

He brought a number of his works, as well as they actual tools he uses along with him to his talk, and talked to us about his career, and about how he relates to the pieces he has created. After he talked he took questions from us and was extremely generous in answering our questions in depth!

 

多摩美術大学名誉教授の高木 晃先生にお越し頂き、漆について特別レクチャーをしていただきました。

高木先生の代表的な作品の実物や愛用の漆用のハケなどの品も見せていただきながら、詳しい制作方法なども教えていただける貴重な機会となりました。レクチャーが終わった後もメンバー達は先生に積極的に質問しに行っていて、先生も丁寧にそれに答えてくださいました。高木先生、とても興味深いお話ありがとうございました。

Ms. Daido has been teaching a course on Japanese culture almost every week for our members. The depth of this course has been amazing, covering everything from Japanese artists of the past to twelve-layered kimonos, and the traditional color palettes of Japan.

 

大道文子先生に日本の文化についての講義授業を数回に渡って行っていただきました。

昔の日本画家についてや、十二単や日本の伝統的な色彩についてなど日本の文化について幅広く学習しました。

Yo Oshima, a professor at Art Center came specially toJapan to view our midterm presentations and to teach a workshop on digital processes.

Over the course of three days, he taught us the basics of creating 3D data, and ways of outputting this data through laser cutting, 3D printing, and CNC.

 

ACCDから環境デザインの大島 陽先生にお越し頂いて、3Dデータの制作方法から、立体物に起こすまでの過程を三日間かけてレクチャーしていただきました。

全体を通して、Rhinocerosという3Dソフトを使用しての3Dデータの作り方や、レーザー加工機やCNC、3Dプリンターを使って3Dデータを元にした立体物の造形方法を実践的に学びました。

A TOSHIBA engineer, Mr.Yasuda and Mr.Kishi visited to tell us about the work Toshiba is doing with new LED technologies.

His talk covered different types of lighting technologies and their histories, leading up to an introduction of one of their new LED technologies, a light which can change color based on input from a smartphone app. After the presentation, members were able to ask their own questions, and even receive input on how to best integrate LEDs into their own project.

 

TOSHIBAの技術者である安田さんと岸さんにお越し頂いて、最先端の照明の技術などについての授業を行ってもらいました。

照明の種類ごとの違いや、LED照明の歴史から最新の面で光る照明やスマートフォンで色を変えることができる照明まで、照明についてを総合的に教えていただきました。最新の照明について先生方も興味津々で、授業が終わった後にメンバーと一緒に質問したりして詳しく話を聞いていたのが印象的でした。

Katsuya Muto, a representative from the OLEC lighting company visited our class to present a special lecture on LED lighting.

His talk covered a wide range of information, from the structure and types of LEDs, as well as the affects lighting can create, and the current lighting market.

 

照明器具会社ODELICの武藤 勝也さんにお越し頂いて、LEDライトについて特別にレクチャーしていただきました。

LEDの仕組みや種類、照明が与える効果、現在の照明の市場についてなど、照明についてを幅広く教えていただきました。

We visited the design studio for Issey Miyake’s BAOBAO bags.

Mr. Matsumura, the designer of the BAOBAO bags took the time to tell us about his design philosophy, and the philosophy of the studio as a whole. After his presentation he also answered our questions. We were especially impressed with the originality of the many designs we saw, including the Pleats Please series.

 

イッセイミヤケのBAOBAOバッグデザインスタジオに行きました。

BAOBAOのデザイナーである松村さんに、BAOBAOの詳しい説明と、どの様にしてBAOBAOが出来上がったかをプレゼンテーションして頂きました。また、同じくイッセイミヤケでデザインされた独自のプリーツの服についてや、イッセイミヤケのデザインの考え方についてまで、実物を見せてもらいながら詳しくお話しいただきました。

We had the opportunity to visit Tokyo Design Week, where many designers exhibited their works throughout the city.

While our assignment was to search for interesting lighting, many of use were influenced by other designs on display as well.

 

大規模なデザインの祭典である東京デザインウィークに行きました。

先生方から照明デザインについてのリサーチ課題が出ていましたが、照明以外の優れたデザインからも刺激を受けました。
