この週は、アートセンターから新しく、Heidrun Mumper-Drumm先生が私たちのプロジェクトを訪れてくださいました。

「サステナビリティ～持続性～」についての鍵となる重要な内容の講義を受け、学生たちはデザインの方向性を築き上げるための基盤を提供していただくことができました。最終的にあらゆる意味で成功したプロダクトを制作するためにもっとも効果的な考え方や方法、プロセスを学びました。

This week, visiting ACCD instructor Heidrun Mumper-Drumm presented a guest lecture on the key topics of sustainability.

The lecture provided students with a foundation on which to build their design directions, defining key concepts necessary to understand sustainable design and how best to fluidly incorporate sustainable thinking into the design process to yield a successful end product.

三週目に入りました。今週のコアタイムでは平面、立体問わずのミックスメディアコラージュを「未来の仕事場の可能性」をテーマに作成し、各自の見解をプレゼンテーションし互いの理解の幅を共有しあいました。

The Ideal Workplace Scenario
This week, students focused their research on the concept of the ideal future workspace situation. Considering the current state of our own workspaces (i.e., characteristics we find vital to our workflow), as well as the future of technology, each student created a two-dimensional collage representing their personal vision of the ideal future workplace scenario.

今回は、前回出された個人課題の講評が行われました。
自分が考える「Home」とは何か？

それぞれの考える「Home」への答えを小さな箱に創作しプレゼンしていきました。
「Home」と一言で言っても、家のこと、家族のこと、思い出のこと…。
この言葉には様々な意味が含まれています。サスティナブルを考える上で大事な要素であるこのテーマを、まず自分の経験から捉えていくのがこの課題の意図です。おそらく制作する内に、私たちも「Home」に対する考えが明確になってきたと思います。
プレゼンが進むと、文化による価値観の違いが見えてきたり、それぞれ次への課題が見えてくるような内容の濃い時間でした。
また、相手に自分の考えを言葉で伝える難しさが実感できた講評でもありました。しかし私達は言葉以外に、ものをつくることでコミュニケーションができる環境にいます。このことをふまえて、お互いのコミュニケーションへの意識もより高まったことと思います。

The theme for the first assignment was “What Is Home?”

We looked at each student’s personal ideas, feelings, and thoughts about what home means to them.
Though each student worked with the same theme, everyone’s solutions differed in concept, materials, and method of expression.  
In this way, we were able to learn from each other’s presentations.

Professor Daido and Ken Otake from the Product Design department assisted in translating the presentations between English and Japanese.

Mr. Frank L. Ellsworth, president of ACCD, stopped by the project room to offer advice and encouragement.

We shared a bit of background about our childhoods during our presentations to explain each of our ideas of home.

次の課題は”Future of Work”。
身近なことを改めて見直すことで、見えるものが様々とクリアになることを感じます。
ここで得たものが次に生かせられる様にしていきたいと思います。

2009, Sep, 15th

初めてのコアタイム。
始めにこのプロジェクト講師を努めるJamesからテーマの説明をプレゼン形式で説明してもらいました。
今年のテーマは ‘Designing Sustainable Living’ に ‘Redefining the Human Experience’ が加わったモノです。
つまり持続性を考えたデザインを起こしていく上で、更に経験していくという事は何かと言う事を見直していくということです。

10月２日(金）にプレゼン発表をする課題のグループ編成が決まりました。
A~Eまでの５つのグループに分けられそれぞれ別のテーマに沿ってリサーチをし、ケーススタディなどを織り交ぜたデジタルプレゼンテーションを行うというものです。

更に18日までの個人課題も出ました。
「What is home?]というテーマにそって25cm×40cmほどのサイズの作品を作って提出という事でした。

今週からいよいよ本格的にプロジェクトが始まります。
プロジェクトの成功を祈ってKick Off Party（開会式）を開催いたしました。
プロジェクトメンバー全員に関わってくださる先生方と国際交流室の方々一同がパーティラウンジに集まりました。
各教員からの挨拶、WEBサイトの紹介、今年のテーマの説明などを発表し、立食形式にて互いに交流を深めました。

This week is the first week of this project.
We had a ‘Kick Off Party’ on Moday September 14th.
All the students and fuculties involved in the project were there, along with some other exchange students. It was a buffet-style party.

多摩美術大学の学生、Art Center College of Designの双方の学生からお互いにプレゼントを渡し合う場面もありました。
ACCD students and TAU students brought presents for each other. Each bag had each person’s name.

下の写真で皆が着ている緑のT-シャツはこの日の為に作ったプロジェクトT-シャツです。
The T-shirts the people are wearing in the photo are made by TAU students, which are the project T-shirts.

テーブルには様々な種類のフルーツ、色とりどりの寿司ロール、ローストビーフにプディング、とても豪華なメニューが並びました。
The food at the party was great and very colorful. The photo shows sushi-rolls.

外のテラスでは多摩美術大学の学生がたこ焼きを焼き、皆で日本独自の味を堪能しました。
People on the outside terrace cooking tako-yaki, a traditional japanese snack.

アトラクションとして花火をしました。
We did fireworks together. It was exciting.

最後に全員で、パチリ。

暖かいムードの中順調に進んでいくパーティを横目に、このプロジェクトの成功を期待せずにはいられませんでした。

世界有数のデザイン学校で、本学、多摩美術大学と28年にわたる交流を続けてきた米国のアートセンター・カレッジ・オブ・デザインが2006年度から続けている共同研究「パシフィックリム」。その第5回目となるジャパンステージが、9月11日始まりました。この日が「パシフィックリム」初顔合わせとなりました。

1, 自己紹介 ~Introduction~

少しの緊張感に包まれながら初顔合わせをしました。プロジェクトリーダーの和田先生とJamesからのお言葉を頂き、お互いの自己紹介をしました。終始笑い声にあふれ、和やかなムードで始まりました。

2, ランチ ~Lunch~

顔合わせが一通り終わったところで、東学食堂にてお昼ご飯をたべました。券売機で券を購入し、その後列に並んでご飯をもらうという一連の流れを確かめました。
After we introduced each other, we moved to the cafeteria(Tougaku) to have a lunch.

3, キャンパスツアー ~Campus Tour~

その後、学生だけでキャンパスツアーを行いました。情報棟、図書館、バス停、本部棟、イイオ食堂、CMTEL、共通教育棟、デザイン棟、彫刻棟、工芸棟、テキスタイル棟をそれぞれ回り、いくつかの展示を見ながらキャンパス内の確認を行いました。
TAU students gave ACCD students a campus tour. We visited each department’s buildings to see how they are like.

4, メンバー写真撮り ~ Taking Profile Pictures~

キャンパスツアーのあと。休憩しながらそれぞれの顔写真を撮りました。

5, 買い出し　~Walk to Super Market~ (Mr.Max)
夜に去年のリムプロジェクトのメンバーでもある先輩のお宅でホームパーティーをすることになり、その買い出しにスーパーへ行きました。
We went the supermarket to buy food for the home party.

6, ホームパーティ ~Home Party~

1DKのアパートにおよそ30人の人がごった返していました。人と人との距離が近い分、お互いをより知ることができました。
Watanabe-san who was the member of Pacific Rim project last year, welcomed us to have a party at his house which was near the campus. We enjoyed drinking and eating and also getting know each other there. It was great time.
