We visited the Arimatsu Narumi Shibori Museum to learn about the history of shibori dyeing in Arimatsu.

The exquisite beauty and unbelievable fine work in each piece of shibori was breathtaking. A rainbow of colors and patterns decorated the works. This was a great opportunity, not just to see the history of shibori, but also to see craftspeople working on shibori.

 

伝統的な有松絞りの歴史や資料が展示されている有松・鳴海絞会館を訪れました。

絞りの繊細で高い技術力、多彩で美しい模様の表現に感動しました。

伝統的な絞りの実演や、絞りの歴史などにメンバー達はとても興味を持って学んでいました。

Mr. Kuno was our teacher for this workshop on shibori dyeing.

After completing two different types of shibori for transforming the shape of cloth, we had the opportunity to visit Mr. Kuno's factory and try our hands at dyeing cloth.

Despite all having been taught the same new techniques, it was amazing how many different types of shibori we created. The dyeing section of the workshop was especially interesting because we had no idea what sort of design we would be able to create until we finished our pieces!

 

絞りと絞り染めのワークショップを行いました。

二種類の絞りの技法を体験した後、絞りの工場へ行って染色の体験をしました。

メンバー達は色々な方法で絞りを作り、どんな表現ができるか積極的に試していました。

染色では折った布を自分達の手で染料につけて染め、最後は全員綺麗に染め上がった自分達だけの染め物を仕上げることができました。

We visited gallery Ovo, where Seto Mono pottery was being designed.

The owner took the time to explain to us how Seto Mono is made.

We then learned how to carve plaster on a pottery wheel to create the base for a new porcelain piece. Mr. Yamada helped each of us to create our own plaster works, and even gave us each a porcelain cup to take home.

 

瀬戸物を制作している工房であるギャラリーOvoを訪れました。

工房では瀬戸物の製造方法や過程を詳しく解説していただきました。

また、その後に実際にろくろを使って陶器のワークショップを行い、職人の山田さんに削りの造形の仕方を詳しく教えて頂きました。

最後には山田さんも一緒にメンバー全員で集合写真を撮りました。
