Pacific Rim project | 多摩美術大学とアートセンター（米国）の共同研究

Thursday of last week,We went to Keiro House which is one of the facility for elderly people in Los Angels. Many Japanese American live in here. This time,we divided into three groups, and visited  separately.In facilities we visited first, Elderly people gathered and enjoyed Shigin (Chinese-poem recitation).

先週の木曜日は、学外研修としてKeiro Houseという老人ホームを訪問しました。多くの日系アメリカ人の方々が生活しています。今回は、３つのグループに分かれて別々に見学を行いました。最初に訪れた施設では、高齢者の方々が集まって詩吟を楽しんでいました。

After that, We moved to Nursing Home by the car.

その後、車を使って別の介護施設まで移動。

In the case of America, it’s necessary to pay the cost of large amount of money to move in the kind of nursing facilities. It’s one of the big problem in America. But this facilities is cheaper than other facilities. And It’s safety. Moreover, it was very clean.

アメリカの場合、介護施設に入居する際に高額の費用を支払わなければなりません。一般の家庭では出費するのが難しい程とも言われています。高齢化を考える上で、非常に大きな問題の一つです。しかしこの施設は、他の施設と比べても比較的安く、またセキュリティもしっかりしているとの事です。しかも非常に綺麗です。

At the end, We moved to meeting room and discussed with the people in facilities.

最後に、ミーティングルームに移動し施設の方々と議論を交わしました。

Students questioned actively. It was a very fine day.

学生からも積極的な質問が飛び交い、有意義な一日となりました。

We have a class of “Aging as Brand” today.

Our teacher is Sherry Hoffman.

We discussed what is the role of culture different between America and Asia,desire and Fears for elders.

I thought that American class style is different from Japanese.
In Japan,we don’t discuss with our teacher when we get lectured.
Japanese students never say anything,I think.
On the other hand,American students ask and discuss something with the teacher until they can understand what he said.　It’s the best way of learning! I like this situation.
I want to be more positive and learn a lot of things.

After we are done,we talked with American students.
They’re so friendly! They care Tama students a lot because we don’t have the way of transportation. We’re really grateful.

こんにちは。先週の木曜日に発表されたグループの下、リム初のアートセンターの学生と混合のグループワークが始まりました!

Group work started with Art center student, that member  was decided  on last Tursday!

最初の発表テーマは「感覚の喪失をオーディエンスに経験してもらうこと」。

高齢者の方は聴覚や視覚、味覚などの様々な感覚が弱くなっていきます。そのような感覚の喪失を疑似的に作り、経験することで、少しでも高齢者が感じていることに気付く試みです。

First presentation theme is “Experiment of lost sensory system “.

Old adults get weaking sense,for example, hearing,sight,and taste. We can understand old adult`s feeling, make lost sense that,so make experience for audience.

グループは4,5人の班が5つ。もちろん話し合いも英語のみでのコミュニケーションなので、意見がきちんと上手く伝えられないなど問題もありましたが、なんとか各班無事に発表を終える事が出来ました。

Group is five, it`s composed four or five peoples.Of course meeting is only English. so we can`t tell idea very well. But finally all group can finished presentation.

味のある食べ物と味のない食べ物を比較することで、味覚の喪失を感じてもらう班

This team make you feel a loss of taste. They compared the food taste one and tasteless one .

視覚を遮り、箱の中身を触って何が入っているか当ててもらう班。視覚を失うことの不安を感じさせます。

This team make you feel the fear of losing vision.

そして授業が終わった後は、ロサンゼルスの老人介護ケアセンターの方のパネルディスカッションも行われました。

After the class, We went to panel discussion of care manager at Los Angeles.

まだ学校が始まって一週間しか経ってませんが、一日一日がとても濃い内容で、もう一ヶ月ほど経ったのではないかと思うくらいです。

今日の朝は英語の授業でした。

We took a English class today’s morning.

授業は生徒が分からない所を質問して、先生がそれに答える形で進んでいきました。

The class questions on the point that the student doesn’t understand, and has advanced in shape that the teacher answers it.

そしてメインプロジェクトの２日目は、月曜日に出た課題のプレゼンテーションと講評でした。

And today we took a Pacific Rim Project class,It’s ２nd day.We commented presentation concerning the assignment that had been put out on Monday.

We prepared for presentation.

各自、自分のやって来た事を発表します。もちろん全て英語です。Pacific Rimのメインの授業は、こういったプレゼンと講評を中心に進めていきます。その為、課題は全て授業外の時間で取り組みます。

We did a presentation,of course we must speak English.In Pacific Rim Project class,the presentation and the comment are mainly advanced. Therefore, we have to make the assignment time other than the class.

本日からArt Centerでの授業がスタートしました！

The class in Art Center started today.

自分たちの教室に着いたばかりのメンバー達。

We arrived at our classrooms.

オリエンテーションと自己紹介が終わった後、早速授業が始まります。自分にとって落ち着けたり心安らぐ場所、感触、状況等を書き出し、各自発表していきます。今回はそのエクササイズの延長の宿題も出題されました。

The class started at once after the orientation and the self introduction ended.We write down the comfortable place, the feeling, and the situation, etc. And we did the presentation.

授業が終わった後、アパートに集まって授業の復習をします。

After the class ends,we gather in the apartment and review the today’s class.

そして本日は、Field Tripを引率して下さったArt Centerの講師であり多摩美の非常勤講師の池崎先生にお礼のサプライズプレゼントをしました！

We sent the surprise present to Mr.Ikezaki who is a lecturer of Art Center and a docent at Tama Art University!

さあ、これからArt Centerの学生とのプロジェクトが始まっていきます！
