今週木曜日はMid Term Exhibition、中間講評会です。
どのグループも朝から準備。
皆集中しているせいか静かです。まさに嵐の前の静けさ！
Hello! Now we are in week 7!
This week Thursday, Mid Term Exhibition will be hold. Every group concentrated to prepare in the early morning.
It is exactly calm before the storm!
今回も各グループで作業しました。

そしてMid Term前と言う事で、多摩美からゲストとして
テキスタイルデザイン学科の教授の吉川先生がいらっしゃいました！
Today professor Yoshikawa who teaches textile design in Tama came to Art Center!
これからMid Termまで怒濤の日々が続いていきます。
Hard day will continue until Mid Term.

It’s sunny day for a long time.
It will be mid-term before long.
That’s why we are sooooooooooo busy with group meeting everyday.
This Thursday was Group Work day for mid-term after one week.

そろそろミッドタームです。
それで、グループミーティングに追われる毎日です。
今週の木曜日は一週間後のミッドタームに向けてのグループ作業が中心となりました。
Each group discussed the project with James and Rob.
各グループごとに先生たちとプロジェクトについてディスカッションします。
This day we had a surprise party for Yuki cause his birthday was 20,Oct.
He became 21-year-old. Congatulation!
この日は10月20日が誕生日だったゆき君のためのサプライズパーティがありました。

今日はプロダクトデザインのJames Chu先生を招いて、ミニプレゼンテーションをしました。
Today we invited James Chu to our class and presented about ideas of each team.
それぞれチーム毎にコンセプトを５分間で説明しました。
チーム同士での発表は初めてだったので、刺激的でした。
We shared our team concepts for five minutes.
It was the first time for us to present to each other.
So this presentation was very inspiring.
チーム毎コンセプトは日ごとに磨きがかかってきています。
来週のmidtermが楽しみです。
The concept is growing and improving more each day.
We’re looking forward to the coming Midterm.

今日はBranding Classを担当しているSherryが講評をしにきてくれました。
Sherry who is teaching Aging as Brand every Wednesday came to see this project.
来週の木曜日はいよいよmidtermに入ってしまうため、どの班も急ピッチで作業を進めています。
どの班もこの時点ですでにコンセプトやどういったシステムなのかを明確にしていて、最終的にどんなアウトプットにするかなどを、スケッチや立体物を作って表現している班もありました。
We work harder because our midterm is coming up.
Each group definitely decided their concept and what kind of system.
Also,some groups did design sketches and the others made some models to show what they want to make.
今回はSherryも講評に参加してくれたため、最初から今までの自分たちの進行状況を話した事によって
自分たちの頭の中を整理すると共に、冷静になって自分達のアイディアを見つめ直すことができました。
midterm前に自分たちの考えやアイディアを一度整理して、冷静になってからまた取り組み直すことも重要だと思います。
We can get organized and reconsider own ideas evenly because Sherry participated in this project and we could tell her our process so far.
I think it’s important to sort own ideas evenly and then work again before midterm.
皆夜遅くまで学校に残ったり、泊まったりして作業をしています。
アートセンターの課題提出前はゲットーのような状態になるとよく聞くので、一体どれだけ忙しくなるのだろうか、と少し恐い反面、midterm後はいよいよ物作りに入るので、皆少しわくわくしています。
We often stayed all night or till midnight at school to work.
Sometimes,we heard that art center will be like a ghetto before their due date,so we are feeling kind of scary,on the other hand,we are excited because we can make our stuff designed.

先々週のページで紹介した最初の課題が早速立体化して戻ってきました。パソコンの中でしか見られなかった物が実際手で触れられるのは感動ものです！
First object made that we telled two weeks ago. It’s so fun! 2D model actually become 3D model that first experience for us.
これから研磨していきます。
So, We started to polish that.
写真はカフェテリア（食堂）です。アートセンターの食事は値段が高めですが、美味しくて種類も豊富です。
Photo is in cafeteria. Cafeteria`s food is a little expensive but so nice and a lot of kind.
サンドイッチや日替わりメニューなど目移りしてしまいそうですが、自分の一番のおすすめはPhilly Cheese Steak Sandwich! タマネギ、牛肉、チーズといったシンプルな材料ですが、やみつきになるうまさです。
My favorite is Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich (5.5$)! .It’s very simple ingredient but I love that taste!
こちらは想像以上に肌寒くなってきました。ミッドターム（中間講評）に向けて既に徹夜をしているグループもありますが、各自体調管理をしながら、頑張っていきます。
Hello! It has become cold. Also Art Center has become as cold as Japan, too.
こんにちは！日本と同じ様に、アートセンターも寒くなってきました。
There is not so much person on the morning of the weekend.
週末の朝は人が少ないですね。
Last Thursday, We worked in each group based on the advice of the Sherry .
Hereafter, The main is group work.
今週木曜日は、シェリー先生のアドバイスの元、各班で作業を進めていきました。
これから先はグループワーク中心となっていきます。
We are starting the full-dress preparation for Mid-Term !

Hi every body! Today, I`d like to show one of the classes we are taking. The Advanced Branding Strategies class.
こんにちは。今日は私たちが受けている授業の一つ、上級ブランディング戦略を紹介したいと思います。
Advanced Branding Strategies is a class that research brands and analyzes its strategies。
上級ブランディング戦略は世中にあるブランドを研究しその戦略を分析する授業です。
She is our teacher Sherry Hoffman.She was in the advertising division of Universal studios before. But for some reason, she is now a teacher and an adviser in her field.Her class is really interesting.
この授業の先生を担当しているシェリー・ホフマンさんです。元々ユニバーサルスタジオの広告戦略部にいたそうですが、とある事情で今は教師をしつつその方面のアドバイザーをしています。難しい用語を使いつつも例をいくつも挙げてくれるので、非常に分かりやすいです。
今日は各自で選んだブランドのＣＭと紙媒体の広告についてリサーチした内容を発表します。どの様な手法をとっているのか、メッセージは何か、ベビーブーマ世代に対してどのような事を訴えているのか、等を重点的に見ていきます。先生の好評だけでなく生徒の好評や意見をたくさん聞けるので、様々な角度から結果を吟味することが可能です。
Today, we are going to make a presentation about the research we made based on the commercial and paper advertisement of a specific brand we chose. We focused on what kind of technique they used, the messages they tried to send, and what are they tyring to say to the Boomers. While the critique goes on, not only the teacher, but the students also joins in too. This makes us consider about the conclusion in a diversified way.
驚くことに、先生から差し入れが来ました！糖分補給のためだそうです、今まで何回かほかの授業でもありましたが日本では考えられません。合理的で形式にこだわらないアメリカならではのやり方なのかもしれません。異文化に住んでいると色々考えさせられます。
Surprisingly there was a present of candies from our teacher! We had some before in other classes, but these kinds of scene are unthinkable in Japan. I keep questioning my self why it is possible. Is it be because of the rational and free spirit of the American way? I guess this is what you call the exquisite taste of being in a foreign country.
後半は各班に分かれてそれぞれの「オンリーネス・ステートメント」について話し合いました。オンリーネス・ステートメントとは簡単に言えば差別化を図るために使う一種の道具で、この形式に落とし込む事でどのような特徴があるのかをはっきりさせます。非常に効果的な手法のようで、ブランディングの際によく使うようです。
In the second half part of our class we divided into our pacific rim groups and made a discussion about the onlyness statement. An onlyness statement is a tool to clear out a brand or somethings features and help it differentiate from others. Regularly used in branding, seems like it is a very effective technique.

Here, in Califonia, has been rain for a while and little bit cold, but now it’s back to nice sunny day! yeah! So we decided to have a party… not just a party, it was JAPANESE PARTY!!!
カリフォルニアではここ最近ずっと雨が降っていてすこし寒い日が続いていたのですが、また良い天気になってきました！なのでわたしたちはパーティー…(ただのパーティーではありません、JAPANESE PARTY!!)を開くことにいたしました。
Art center students are really kind to us. They always try to wait for until we totally get the point of what we are doing in the group even if it takes a long time to understand each other. Also they take us to nice place to eat too!! That’s why we decided to have an Appreciation party for art center.
アートセンターの学生たちはとても親切です。いつも英語に困っているわたしたちのためにいくら時間がかかろうと理解するまで待ってくれたり、おいしいレストランに連れて行ってくれたりします。そんな彼らにありがとうの気持ちを伝えようとパーティーを開きました！
Because of we wanted to sharing japanese food culture, we had cooked many japanese food. There were Onigiri, which was main dish, and sea food salad with tofu in it, Tonjiru, Okonomiyaki and also, Koiichiro’s Barbeque!!
日本の食文化を伝えたかったために、パーティーの料理にはおにぎりや豆腐のはいったシーフードサラダ、お好み焼きを作りました。近藤くんのバーベキューもありました！
Many art center students had came and shared food, laugh and talk… The party was held in boys apartment, there were big pool and jaquzzi, so we had conversation at there too!! How fantastic!!
みんなが来て料理を食べ、いろんな話をしました。最後にはプールのとなりにあるジャグジーで集まって楽しいひとときを過ごしました!!
Everyone seemed they had a lot of fun!! Thank you and otukaresama for all of you~!
みんなとてもパーティーを楽しんでいる様子でした。みんなありがとう、そしておつかれさま！
