Today, We started with new groups!

本日から心機一転、新しいグループでの始動です。

We showed group member to individual portfolio.
we could understand each other more.

And,
today’s contents is group discussion.
We did panel discussion and talked about each group’s themes.
We have to prepare for the presentation in Mid‐Term.

今日は各自のポートフォリオを見せ合いました。
私たちはお互いの理解をより深めることができました。

そして、ミッドタームに向けて本格的な制作に入ってきます。
今日のレクチャーの内容は主に話し合いです。
各グループ、パネルディスカッションを行い、
制作の核となる、テーマについて話し合いました。

Hereafter, we will become busier.
So we should be rest and go Mid‐Term!

これからさらに忙しくなってきます。
十分な休養をとって、ミッドタームに向けて全力でぶつかっていきたいと思います。

We had a third class for solid works.

Our homework was to design two designs for 3D printing.

We should choose one of them vase, planter, watering pan.

The key point is size and thickness.

Because size decides price of 3D printing and if too thin, that will be broken.

We had second presentation each group on this Thursday.
We  answered questions which were given and made a suggestion for four theme, Technology, Mobility, Human centered. Environment centered.
Each group showed unique presentation.

今週の木曜日は各グループによる第２回目のプレゼンテーションでした。
内容は、各チームに与えられた質問の解答と、Technology, Mobility, Human centered, Environment centered の４つのテーマから考えられるアイディアの発表です。
各チームがユニークなプレゼンテーションをしました。

This team answered top 10 health problems in Japan and America.
They showed movie which are expressed lifestyle of young people in Japan and America, and pointed out the cause of health problems.

日本とアメリカにおける健康問題トップ１０に対する解答をしたチームです。
日本とアメリカ、各々の若者の一日の生活スタイルを動画で示し、健康問題の原因を指摘しました。

They answered top 10 cities Japanese and American elders want to live.
They showed ranking and used quiz.

日本とアメリカの高齢者が、住みたいと思っている都市トップ１０についての解答です。
ランキング形式でクイズを交えた発表でした。

Because of this presentation we could learn common and difference of aging problems between Japan and America,
and we can guess goal of design.

日本とアメリカの高齢者問題に対する共通点と差異が明確にされ、デザインの目的が見えてきました。

リムは早くもWeek3に！月曜日、二回続けての学外研修はハリウッドに程近いファーマーズ・マーケットにやってきました。ファーマーズ・マーケットは1934年に地元の農家が集まって出来た歴史ある市場で、ロス市民の憩いの場でもあります。

Pacific Rim was in Week 3! Last Monday,We went to “Farmer’s Market” near Hollywood. Farmer’s Market is  old market in L.A. which build by local farmers in 1934. So It’s a relax place for L.A. peoples.

市場の中はサンドイッチにアイスクリーム、ケーキにバーベキューといった食べ物屋さんが所狭しと並んでいて、平日の昼間でも高齢者の方を始め多くの人が食事や会話を楽しんでいました。

The market is lined with food shops. sandwich,ice cream,cake and barbecue. Many elderly peoples enjoyed lunch and conversation in afternoon.

今回調べることは、高齢者にとって居心地よい空間とは何かを調べる事です。グループごとに市場の中で店員の方や高齢者の方々にインタビューを行いました。彼らは市場で何をしているか？、何を買っているか？、どうして市場に来たのか？などあらゆる角度から高齢者の方の立場を考え、デザインを行うヒントを得ていきます。

In this time, we researched  what is comfortable place for elderly peoples. Each group interviewed with shop staff and elderly people in the market.

What are they doing?,  Are they buying products, if so what? Why are they come to here? We got hint to aging design for thinking  about senior citizen’s position.

次の木曜日には学外研修で調べた事や各々のテーマを発表するプレゼンテーションがあります。果たしてどんな成果が出てくるでしょう。楽しみです。

We will present  the result of researching for field trip and  each theme in this Thursday. I’m looking for presentation.

Thursday of last week,We went to Keiro House which is one of the facility for elderly people in Los Angels. Many Japanese American live in here. This time,we divided into three groups, and visited  separately.In facilities we visited first, Elderly people gathered and enjoyed Shigin (Chinese-poem recitation).

先週の木曜日は、学外研修としてKeiro Houseという老人ホームを訪問しました。多くの日系アメリカ人の方々が生活しています。今回は、３つのグループに分かれて別々に見学を行いました。最初に訪れた施設では、高齢者の方々が集まって詩吟を楽しんでいました。

After that, We moved to Nursing Home by the car.

その後、車を使って別の介護施設まで移動。

In the case of America, it’s necessary to pay the cost of large amount of money to move in the kind of nursing facilities. It’s one of the big problem in America. But this facilities is cheaper than other facilities. And It’s safety. Moreover, it was very clean.

アメリカの場合、介護施設に入居する際に高額の費用を支払わなければなりません。一般の家庭では出費するのが難しい程とも言われています。高齢化を考える上で、非常に大きな問題の一つです。しかしこの施設は、他の施設と比べても比較的安く、またセキュリティもしっかりしているとの事です。しかも非常に綺麗です。

At the end, We moved to meeting room and discussed with the people in facilities.

最後に、ミーティングルームに移動し施設の方々と議論を交わしました。

Students questioned actively. It was a very fine day.

学生からも積極的な質問が飛び交い、有意義な一日となりました。
